IT and Culture: Russian Museum’s collection to join Google Art Project
A part of the collection held by the State Russian Museum (St. Petersburg) will go online as a part of Google Art Project this April, Olga Babina, curator of “Virtual Museum” department announced.
“The next month will see the official inclusion of the Russian Museum and Pushkin Museum in Google Art Project. It may be regarded as our world debut”, Olga Babina said.
At the moment the Russian Museum has provided some 50 items from its collection in high resolution. Google, in its turn, has offered the panorama of Karl Brullov’s “The Last Day of Pompeii” and produced a special video about St. Petersburg museum.
The lion’s share of works from the museum collection was digitized by Krasnoyarsk students. Google offered its helping hand during digitization of large exhibits.
Olga Babina says that the whole content has been uploaded to Google’s service, however initially the collection will be only available in English.
