Information technology and education: Beta version of educational Internet channel to be demonstrated in May

15 March 2012

A beta version of the educational Internet channel for schools on the basis of web monitoring system set up to conduct the elections, will be presented in May at the "Communication-Expocomm" Telecommunications Exhibition in Moscow, said the head of the Ministry of Communications Igor Shchegolev at his meeting with students of the Higher School of Television under the Lomonosov Moscow State University on March 14, 2012.

Responding to students’ questions about the creation of an educational channel, Igor Shchegolev said that it would be developed in the format of Internet-television based on the webcasts from the polling stations during the election of the Russian President on March 4. The Minister noted that the "Webelections2012" project had not only increased the capacity of Russian Internet, but had also created the opportunity to deliver content to 90,000 stations in the country, many of which are located in schools."Until now many schools have not been able to receive a "heavy" content. Now, such a channel exists. One of the first ideas of our ministry and the Ministry of Education and Science was to try to create a resource that would enable us to deliver educational video to most of our schools," said the head of the Ministry of Communications. The new educational project will give an opportunity to every teacher to develop his own schedule of viewing educational programs, as well as create and share on his video lessons at a special resource. "We are just now working on such a project. Most likely, we will present its prototype at the "Communication-Expocomm" exhibition in May”, said the Minister.
