13 March 2012

On March 13th 2012 in celebration of 200th anniversary of the Patriotic War of 1812 the History of Yekaterinburg Museum is staging an exhibition “No wonder all Russia remembers…”.

Unique museum exhibits from the collection of the State Borodino Military and Historical Museum-Reserve – heraldic flags, uniforms of Russian and French soldiers, discoveries from the battlefield and personal belongings of Mikhail Kutuzov – are on display for visitors of the History of Yekaterinburg Museum.

The exhibit brought to Yekaterinburg from the State Borodino Military and Historical Museum-Reserve turns the spotlight on the central event of the Patriotic War of 1812 – the Battle of Borodino, or “a battle of giants” as Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte referred to it.

Among paintings and drawings there are portraits of emperors Alexander I and Napoleon I, lithographs from drawings of German artists A. Adam and Ch. W. Faber du Faur, who took part in the campaign to Russia in The Grande Armée, battle-scene paintings by an artist of the early 20th century N. Samokish and our contemporaries A. Averyanov, A. Leonov, A. Chagadaev.

Exhibits give a vivid picture of a glorious heroic epoch of 1812, heroes of the Borodino Field, who have added their names to a centuries-old history of our state.
