Regions of Russia: Exhibit devoted to 150th birth anniversary of Metropolitan Arseny opens in Novgorod

On March 2nd 2012 Novgorod Museum-Reserve is launching an exhibition “Thy will be done…”, which celebrates 150th birth anniversary of Metropolitan Arseny (Stadnitsky). The exhibition will showcase documentary materials and photographs from a small private archive of Archbishop Arseny, which is found in Novgorod Museum’s Written Sources Division, and books from the archbishop’s library which are kept in the Rare Book Collection of the museum’s library.

The exhibition will release a series of unique group photos of Archbishop Arseny with different figures of the Church.

Other exhibits include diplomas, letters of greetings and thanks and transcripts of Archbishop Arseny’s speeches.

Novgorod Museum is a custodian of a major share of Arseny’s private library (1269 books). Visitors of the exhibition can discover treatises of the church hierarch, editions of the turn of 19th – 20th cc. on history, archaeology, philosophy, pedagogic, history of the Church, literature on law and fiction, Archbishop Arseny took a particular interest in. Books with autographs of Arseny himself along with autographs of prominent scholars, famous statesmen and men of letters will undoubtedly arouse interest.
