Book culture and society: International Scientific-Practical Conference “Reading children and adults: a book and personal development” in Saint-Petersburg

On April 26-27, 2012 the Committee for Education of the Government of Saint-Petersburg, the Saint-Petersburg Academy of post-graduate pedagogical education and the Fund for the support of the education have organized an international scientific-practical conference “Reading children and adults: a book and personal development” in order to implement the National Program of Support and Development of reading.

The conference program included a plenary session, sections, master-classes, summarizing educational and library contests. The work of round tables and sections allowed to get acquainted with new approaches and technologies of library services for children and adults as well as pedagogical methods and technologies of interest on reading and reading quality achievement in Russia and abroad.

Issues to be discussed:

- Development of conceptual approaches to enhance the role of the book in the educational and leisure activities of children and adults;

- Determination of the ways of positive influence of the book on the development of the personality of children and adults and their experimental verification;

- An increased attention to the quality of the reading of children and adults, the development of criteria for quality assessment of reading in science and reading practice;

- The role of reading in the family

- The use of electronic resources in the development of reading interest;

- The librarian as a teacher and andragogue working with teachers and parents;

- Improvement of the professional competence of teachers in issues of child and youth reading and achievement of the quality of students’ reading;

- The design of program of support and development of reading for educational institutions;

- The socio-pedagogical support of reading: international experience;
