Russian Premier Minister: Vladimir Putin at the Russian Geographical Society session to support implementation of scientific and educational projects

April 10, 2012 in St. Petersburg, Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin is presiding the third meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Russian Geographical Society (RGS).

This year meeting of the Board of Trustees will include a ceremony of presentation of eight targeted grants for research and educational projects of the Society in such categories as "Using the Latest Technology in Geographical Research", "Preservation of Natural and Cultural Heritage", "Ecological and Geographical Education and Awareness," "Preservation of RGS Heritage," "Publishing Projects," "Travels and Expeditions." In addition, the traditional signing of the RGS pioneers’ map is scheduled. The Map, which is a copy of the first world atlas in Russian (1737), was first presented at a meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Society in 2011. That year, it was the first woman-cosmonaut, Valentina Tereshkova, and record-holder for the stay in space, Elena Kondakova who left their signatures on the Map. This year, the Map will be signed by Alexey Leonov and Arthur Chilingarov.

RGS traditionally supports the initiatives that contribute to promoting the historical, cultural and geographical heritage of Russia, the development of geographic and related sciences on nature and society, the dissemination and implementation in practice of the best achievements of the national science, as well as the development of domestic tourism and culture of healthy and active lifestyle.
