Exhibitions: “Mikhail Nesterov” exposition in St. Petersburg

April 5, 2012 the State Russian Museum (St. Petersburg) opened an exhibition of works by Mikhail Nesterov (1862-1942).

The exhibition, timed to the 150th anniversary of Nesterov, includes nearly two hundred paintings and drawings from the Russian Museum, the State Tretyakov Gallery, the Bashkir State Art Museum, the Astrakhan State Art Gallery, the National Museum of the History of Religion, the Scientific Research Museum of the Russian Academy of Arts, the State Historical-Art and Literary Museum "Abramtsevo", the Tver Regional Picture Gallery, the Church-Archaeological study of the Moscow Orthodox Theological Academy, the State Museum-Preserve "Pavlovsk", the State Museum-Preserve "Peterhof", as well as from private collections.

Mikhail Nesterov’s work related to religious and philosophical quests of the Silver Age of Russian culture, has revealed a wonderful, poetic world of Orthodox monasteries and hermitages of Old Believers, the charm of the central Russia nature, soulful beauty of the national character. Images of famous contemporaries, created by the artist, embodied the best traits of a creative person, and have become classics of the portraiture genre in the national art.
