Museums of Russia: Russian Premier Minister Vladimir Putin met with national museums’ directors

6 April 2012

April 5, 2012 in Saratov, took place a meeting of Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin with the leaders of the country's museums. It discussed the problems and prospects of the industry.

In the course of the meeting there were suggested four main areas of improvement of legislation for the museums. First, it requires a system of state insurance guarantees and return of exhibits. Secondly, museums need to be authorized to conduct research work. In addition, the museum exhibits should be made available for educational purposes. And finally, one of the biggest problems is the collections’ enrichment.

The meeting has called to the government and the public to draw attention to the division of tasks of museum activity. Leisure and tourism sector should be intended to the objectives of education, while museums themselves must remain the guardians of the world's cultural heritage and scientific work.
