Book history: “The Golden Age of the French Book in Russia” Conference in the Pskov Region
4–8 April, 2012 the “Mikhailovskoye” A. S. Pushkin State Museum-Preserve (Pskov Region) is hosting “The Golden Age of the French Book in Russia” Theoretical & Practical Conference timed to the 200th anniversary of the Russian victory in the Patriotic War of 1812.
The program includes 17 presentations prepared by researchers of the French and Russian literature and culture.
The conference, in particular, will focus on the role of French books in Russia in the 18th century and in Pushkin's age; it will discuss what kind of French literature often made part of private book collections of the Russian nobility; the collections of foreign books in the holdings of Russian museums (with the formulation of hypotheses about the origin of a number of publications); a book in the context of a museum exhibition.
Timed to the beginning of the conference, the Pushkin Museum Reserve prepared an exhibition of French books of the 18th-19th centuries from the museum’s collections and research library. Traditionally, the conference is open to all so that everyone is welcome to take part in the discussion.
