Regions of Russia: “Features of Library Services in a Multicultural Region: Urals Version” Conference in the Sverdlovsk Region

3-4 April, 2012 the Sverdlovsk Regional Interethnic Library and the Central Public Library of Novouralsk urban district, under the support of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Sverdlovsk region and the Russian Library Association, are holding "Features of Library Services in a Multicultural Region: Urals Version" Russian Scientific-Practical Conference in Yekaterinburg and Novouralsk (Sverdlovsk Region).

The conference discussed the following issues:

- Multicultural regions in the world today: issues of identity and cultural politics;

- Library services to multicultural population: classical and innovative ways of working, sharing experiences and finding new solutions;

- Cultural and ethnic identity of the reader: the problem of awareness and the role of libraries in its formation;

- Digitization of library collections in the languages of the peoples of Russia: challenges and work experience.

The aim of the conference is to improve the efficiency of libraries in Russia on issues of multicultural public service, promotion and preservation of cultures of the peoples of Russia.
