Russian culture abroad: Rossotrudnichestvo meeting on Russian national culture promotion

April 2, 2012 Rossotrudnichestvo held a meeting of representatives of federal and regional ministries and agencies, as well as leaders of the nation's leading artistic groups in Russia, regarding the promotion of Russian national culture abroad.

Opening the meeting, the Head of Rossotrudnichestvo, Konstantin Kosachev, noted: "Adoption of a fair view of modern Russia abroad in all its cultural, spiritual diversity, preserving and promoting linguistic and cultural presence of Russia in the world through the public diplomacy is not just words, it is the mission which cannot be realized only by the Federal agency, without our partners. Rossotrudnichestvo has opportunities for promotion of Russian culture: it has both programs and infrastructure. Our infrastructure is unique, we have offices in 75 countries. And we are ready to provide grounds on the basis of our offices to our partners for collaboration on the promotion of multinational culture of Russia."

Participants made many suggestions for collaboration with Rossotrudnichestvo aimed at promoting national culture outside Russia.

One of the main issues of the meeting was the creation of a coordinating advisory body - Council to promote the Russian national culture abroad. The Council will be an advisory body, formed to provide and expand access overseas to multi-national traditions of Russian culture and its modern achievements, promoting a positive image of the Russian Federation in the international community through a system of cultural values and orientations.
