Memorable dates of Russia: “Patriotic War of 1812 Eyewitness Account” private collection exhibition in Ryazan

May 18, 2012 the Ryazan State Regional Art Museum opened an exhibition from a private collection, "The War of 1812 Eyewitness Account."

The exhibition features 96 lithographs made in 1827-1830 on the basis of the drawings of one of the members of Napoleon's campaign to Russia, Christian Wilhelm von Faber du Faure, which had made part of the album "The sheets from my portfolio with sketches made on site during the campaign in Russia."

Amateur artist Christian Wilhelm von Faber du Faure served in the 25th Infantry Division of the Grand Army. His drawings reflect all stages of the Napoleonic campaign. The author captures the genre scenes of bivouacs of the French troops, interesting architectural buildings and ethnographic items, battle scenes. Among them, the episodes of heroism of Russian soldiers, that had struck the officer. In the last sections Christian Wilhelm von Faber du Faure depicts the flight of Napoleon's army from Russia.

The album "The sheets from my portfolio ..." is a very rare publication in Russia. The year of the 200th anniversary of victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1812, visitors of the exhibition have a unique opportunity to see the long past events through the eyes of an eyewitness. The exhibition will run until June 17.
