Museums: “Museums Night” International action in St Petersburg

19 May 2012

"Museum Night" is an annual event marking the International Day of Museums.

The action "Museum Night" is international and is held in 42 European countries. Nearly 3,000 museums do not sleep once a year, opening their doors to all who are interested to see the museum in an unusual time of day. The official website of the European "Night" features an interactive map - it shows all the participating museums with a brief description of the activities to come.

In 2012 in most Russian cities, "Museum Night" will be held on the night of 19 to 20 May.

St. Petersburg museums, large and small, traditionally open their doors to visitors in the evening and at night, and prepare a special program: on- day exhibitions, concerts, performances, author tours, master classes, and historical reconstruction.

A common theme for all programs of the "Museum Night 2012" will be "Urban Mysteries." Museums of Petersburg are keeping many secrets - loud and almost unknown to the general public. Mysterious events, exciting stories, mysteries of particular items or entire buildings - all will become part of the "Museum Night 2012."
