History and culture: XII International Scientific Conference “Spiritual Origins of Russian Art and Enlightenment” in Novgorod

10 May 2012

It is the 12th time that Novgorod is hosting an international "Spiritual Origins of Russian Art and Enlightenment" ("Nikita's Readings") scientific conference 10-13 May 2012. This time the conference is devoted not only to the memory of St. Nikita of Novgorod, but also to the 1150th anniversary of Russia's statehood.

"Nikita's Readings" cover a wide range of issues related to in-depth study of connections between Orthodoxy and the main types of Russian art: verbal, pictorial, musical, architectural, decorative and applied. Particular attention is paid to the experience of national pedagogy, which is regarded as "the art of arts."

This year's conference will be attended not only by the people of Novgorod, but also by representatives of Moscow and St. Petersburg, Petrozavodsk, Kaliningrad, Ulyanovsk, Ryazan, Ivanovo, Yekaterinburg, Perm, Vologda, Kazan, Voronezh, Izhevsk, Nizhny Novgorod, Udmurtia, Pskov and guests from Croatia, Finland, Belarus and Ukraine.

Painters from Orel will exhibit their works, "Travels to the Holy Places," at the St. George Monastery.
