29 June 2012

June 28, in Tver, at the museum of Mikhail Saltykov-Shchedrin opened "True sons of Russia" exhibition, dedicated to the 200th anniversary of the Patriotic War of 1812.

The exhibition is based on the material from the collections of the Tver State United Museum. These are the portraits of war heroes, engravings, lithographs and other graphic materials, documents, books, weapons, household objects - relics of the early XIX century. Another part of the exhibits is already related to the beginning of XX century, the time of the celebration of the 100th anniversary of Russian victory over Napoleon. These are souvenirs, which appeared in France and Russia in 1912: commemorative medals, cups, postcards with reproduction of paintings by Russian and French artists with episodes of the World War II and much more.

The exhibition’s organizers tried to tell about the fate of many people - from the emperor and commander to the rank and a simple peasant, as well as how their achievements are reflected in the poetry and prose of the XIX century. Besides, expositions can be used as a textbook for pupils and students.
