Internet and society: Runet is the European leader by the number of users

In Russia the number of Internet users over 15 years old was 56 million in March – this is the fifth place in the world after China (333.3 million), the USA (190.7 million), Japan (73.5 million) and India (56.3 million), according to the presentation of Tiffany Walker, comScore senior director.

According to comScore, during the last year the number of Runet users has grown by 18%. Faster growth of Internet audience has been marked just in India (32%), Italy (24%) and Mexico (22%).

TNS believes that the number of Russians using Internet is even greater: according to the company, in April, the number of users of 18 years old and older was 64 million, the growth rate of the audience per year is 27%.

According to the State Statistics Committee, in April, 2012 Russia numbered 143.1 million citizens. That is more than in any other European country, but much less than in the most populated countries of the world: China’s population is 1.3 billion, India’s - 1.2 billion, United States’ - 313.8 million. However, in Japan that has undergone Russia by the number of Internet users, lives only 127.6 million people.
