Internet resources: testing of Duolingo online service for studying foreign languages is completed

Testing of the online service Duolingo, the purpose of which is to help users to study languages and get a high-quality translation of texts and web pages, is completed.

Duolingo is a project created by the specialist in computer sciences – Luis von Ahn from the University of Carnegie – Mellon (USA). The idea is to give subscribers the opportunity to practice in the translation of various phrases. The texts for exercises are taken from the Internet, which allows obtaining versions in other languages.

Currently Duolingo is supporting English, German, French and Spanish languages; in future it is planned to add Portuguese, Chinese and etc.

While distributing the tasks, Duolingo takes into account users’ qualification: beginners will get extremely simple phrases, and more experienced subscribers will get more complicated texts. Authors of the project believe that it will help people, who study foreign languages, to expand their vocabulary and learn the basic rules.

The translations are estimated by other users of Duolingo. That allows choosing the most qualified variant of all. Thus, Duolingo may become a free instrument of translation of web pages and materials published on the web, etc.
