A new project “Russian Library” is launched by the Overlook Press and the Federal Agency on Press and Mass Communications. The project was presented at the last Book Expo America in New York in the framework of the Read Russia program.
“Russian Library” will include 125 volumes. The first five books of the "Russian Library" are scheduled for publication in autumn of 2013. At the same time their electronic versions will be launched. Each year it is planned to produce 10 volumes of Russian prose, drama and poetry. Publishers are going to use ready-made translations, as well as to order new ones. Editorial board of the series will include literary critics and translators.
In addition to obvious choices - Pushkin, Gogol, Lermontov, Tolstoy, Dostoevsky and Chekhov - publishers are planning to use less well-known in the West monuments of Old Russian literature, "The Tale of Bygone Years," "Novgorod Chronicle."
Each volume will be accompanied by an introduction and commentary. "Library" is to be published in the "elegant design".
