Libraries of Russia: Old books told the “Russian History from Ancient Times” in Novgorod
Exhibition of lifetime editions of books by Russian and foreign historians, writers and scientists dedicated to the Year of Russian statehood opened in Nizhny Novgorod Regional Universal Library.
The exhibition features old printed editions of XVI-XIX centuries. Among them there is “Russian History from Ancient Times,” published in 1790, written by one of the most educated men of the time, Prince Michael Shcherbatov; “Russian History in the Biographies of its Most Important Leaders” by Russian historian, Nikolay Kostomarov and “Ancient Russian History Before the Mongol yoke” by Mikhail Pogodin published in 1871.
The exhibition is featuring historical research by Lomonosov and the famous “History of the Russian State” by Nikolay Karamzin with copies of the handwritten pages of the book and the notes of the great historian, as well as the works of Sergei Solovyov. Books of Russian historians are next to the books of their Western colleagues.
