Information technology and society: Predicted development of mobile platforms
In 2012-2016 Google Android will remain the dominant platform in the global smart phones market, but in 2012 its share will reach the peak in the period under review, according to analyst firm IDC.
It is expected that in 2012, Android will take 61% of the global smart phones market in quantitative terms, and by 2016 the share of the platform will reduce to 52.9%.
However, analysts continue to predict the rapid growth in popularity of the Windows Phone. According to IDC, by 2016 its share will increase to 19.2% compared to 5.2% this year. In 2016 Microsoft platform will occupy the second place in terms of supply, after Android, predicts IDC.
It is expected that the share of Apple iOS will reduce from 20.5% to 19%, and that of BlackBerry OS - from 6% to 5.9%.
According to the IDC forecast, the delivery of all types of mobile phones to the world market in 2012 will grow by 4% compared to last year (1.8 billion), which would be the smallest annual increase since 2009. In 2016, according to analysts, the amount of delivery will reach 2.3 billion.
