History of Russia: Exhibition “pre-Petrine Russia in illustrations” in Novosibirsk
In June, the Novosibirsk State Art Museum opens a new exhibition project "We read the classics with an artist," which presents illustrations of the well-known Russian masters to classical works of domestic and foreign literature.
June 7, 2012, on the eve of the Russia Day, the museum opened an exhibition of "pre-Petrine Russia in illustrations", dedicated to the 1150th anniversary of the origin of Russian statehood. The events of the ancient history of our country, captured in the masterpieces of Russian literature - "The Tale of Bygone Years," "Lay", "History of the Russian Statehood" by N. M. Karamzin, "Boris Godunov" by A. S. Pushkin – are presented in sheets, created by famous artists – F. A. Bruni, V. A .Favorsky, and M. M. Mechev.
By placing a number of engravings and lithographs next to excerpts from the texts, the exhibition organizers will not only emphasize the inseparable connection between words and images in illustrations, but will also give the viewer opportunity to feel the touch of a textbook for a living pulse of the nation's history, phenomena which were first given by a magnificent bright literary language and then translated in graphic images.
