Global security issues discussed at the Presidential Library

June 7, 2012 in the Presidential Library opened the third international meeting of high representatives in charge of security matters. The aim of the two-day conference was to find answers to pressing questions of global security.

The forum is attended by Russian Security Council Secretary, N. P. Patrushev, St. Petersburg Governor, G. S. Poltavchenko, President’s Plenipotentiary Envoy to the North-West Federal District, N. A. Vinnichenko. Among the foreign representatives are: secretaries of security councils, presidents’ and prime ministers’ assistants for national security, ministers, heads of intelligence agencies from 60 countries, including representatives of the UN.

As noted N. P. Patrushev, opening the session, the meeting was intended to continue the search for common responses to current challenges and threats. Secretary of Russian Security Council said that it highlights new, key areas for action to ensure national, regional and international security.

The agenda of the participants includes discussion of global energy security, improving the forms and methods of combating piracy. Joint efforts of the international community in ensuring international security will also be discussed. The next day discussions will cover new threats to civilization - asteroids and comets and problems of space debris.

The forum’s program also includes bilateral and multilateral meetings between the delegations. Earlier, similar meetings were held in Sochi and Yekaterinburg.
