Information technology and society: .DETI domain to be launched in the summer of 2013

Domain .DETI (children) may come into existence in Russia in a year, said Marina Nikerova, chairman of the nonprofit foundation "Smart Internet", at the round table "Adult Problems of Child Internet," organized by the Coordination Center for the national domain.

"At the moment we have filed an application to ICANN for domain .DETI. In total, ICANN has received about 2,000 applications," said M. Nikerova. According to her, the draw to determine the order of consideration of applications received, will be held at ICANN on 11 July. Then will be set the date to consider the application filed by the fund "Smart Internet". If in the course of the application consideration there are no problems, the emergence of the .DETI domain zone will be possible in the summer of 2013.

M. Nikerova noted that currently there is a tremendous shortage of online resources with the content, designed specifically for children. One of the main tasks of non-profit foundation "Smart Internet" is the search, promotion and creation of sites with appropriate content for kids. .DETI domain zone should include more than one thousand domains, designed specifically for children. However, their operation will only be possible with financial support from the state.

The new domain will be used for education and development playing content, which should be fun and at the same time safe for a young audience of the Internet.
