
World culture: Two graphic works of Marc Shagal presented to the National Art Museum of Belarus
Two drawings by Marc Chagall have been donated to the National Art Museum of Belarus (Minsk), July 24, 2012 during the commemoration of the 125th anniversary of the artist.
"The National Art Museum held the celebrations dedicated to the 125th anniversary of the famous artist, our countryman Marc Chagall. The real event on this day will be a the presentation to the museum of two graphic works by the artist, "The Vision of Apocalypse" and "The Way of the Cross", says the statement released by Belgazprombank, which made the gift to the museum.
The artist’s drawings, "The Vision of Apocalypse" and "The Way of the Cross" were purchased by Belgazprombank at Christie’s auction.
"Way of the Cross" and "Vision of the Apocalypse" are works on biblical subjects, so popular in the artist's lifelong work. Both drawings were created in 1967, representing 24 copies of 35 copies, as evidenced by the inscription in pencil under the image, made by the master's hand. Both sheets are signed: on the right below the image there are original autographs of the artist, Marc Chagall.
The museum’s celebration program also includes a special cancellation and presentation of the movie "Marc Chagall. Unreal Reality "shot by Belarusian documentary filmmaker, Zoya Kotovich upon the scenario by Vera Savina.
