For the 400th anniversary of reign of the Romanov dynasty: Romanov Quadricentenary Egg presented to the “Tsarskoye Selo” Museum

July 24, 2012 the "Tsarskoye Selo" Museum-Preserve was presented with an Easter Egg created for "the 400th anniversary of the Romanov dynasty." It was created based on a sketch by the British jeweler Theo Faberge, the grandson of the famous Carl Faberge. The egg, decorated with diamonds, rubies and sapphire guilloche enamel, was brought to the Tsarskoe Selo by Chairman of "The St. Petersburg Collection. Theo Faberge's works" Foundation, Philip Birkenshteyn. This is one of the first events devoted to the 400th anniversary of the Romanov dynasty to be be celebrated in 2013.

In 1913, Tsar Nicholas II presented his wife, Alexandra Fyodorovna, the Romanov Tercentenary Egg designed and made by Carl Faberge. The grandson of the famous jeweler Theo Faberge, already deceased, designed several years ago the Romanov Quadricentenary Egg with 18 miniature decorations, according the number of rulers of the Romanov dynasty. Traditionally for the House of Faberge craftsmen, the egg contains a surprise - Romanov heraldic griffin from sterling silver and 24 carat gold with a sword, studded with diamonds. Griffin figurine can be removed and exhibited next to the egg.
