The remains of an ancient sea port were discovered by archaeologists in the Israeli city of Akko, Israel Antiquities Department reported.

According to the department, an important archaeological find was made by specialists near the wall of the Old City of Akko. The discovered sea port belongs to the Hellenistic period (III - II centuries BC), then it was considered an important point.

According to one of the leading specialists of the department, Coby Sharvit, the discovered construction gives a complete picture of the location of the port in the Hellenistic period, whereas previously, archaeologists could only assume where the landing stage of Akko was situated.

In addition to the ancient buildings, which include the remains of the dock, where the vessels were moved to, archaeologists found many shards and even whole ceramic vessels and metal objects that correspond to the type of the items discovered earlier in the ancient ports of the Aegean Sea.
