Russian language abroad: Russian Language Week in Austria

In September 2012 in Austria will take place the Week of Russian Language and Culture. The event is organized by the Russian Center for Science and Culture in Vienna and the Faculty of Philology of the National Research University "Higher School of Economics" (Moscow) under financial support of the Federal Agency for Commonwealth of Independent States, Compatriots Living Abroad and International Humanitarian Cooperation (Rossotrudnichestvo). The event is part of the federal target program "Russian Language" for 2011-2015.

To participate in the event are invited teachers of Russian language and literature in schools and universities, those who study Russian language and are interested in Russian culture, and compatriots living abroad and their families. Considerable attention during the event will be paid to the problems of preserving the Russian language and ethno-cultural identity of children in bilingual families, to the support of the national Russian studies, innovative methods and tools of teaching Russian language and literature.

As part of the Russian Language Week, there will be held on methodological and theoretical-practical seminars on teaching Russian as a native, second native and foreign language; public lessons, master classes and workshops, quizzes for children; exhibitions of educational, scientific, methodological literature and fiction, theoretical and practical conference on the issues of bilingual families and preserving the Russian language in such families, a number of other activities of educational, scientific and methodological nature.

The grand opening of the Week of Russian Language and Culture will be held September 24, at the RCSC, in Vienna.
