18 July 2012

From July 14 to December 15, 2012 in Vladivostok, the ArsenyevState Museum of Primorye is holding the exhibition "Russian China", which reveals the world of Russian culture in China (cultural life of the Russian emigration in China in the first half of the twentieth century). The idea of the exhibition belongs to the famous historian of fashion, costume designer, collector, Alexander Vasilyev, whose extensive collection has been supplemented by museum's collections and a unique collection of materials and documents from the personal archives of Larissa Anderson, kindly provided by Tamara Kaliberova.

"Russian China" is a huge stratum of Russian culture represented by the architecture of Chinese cities of Harbin, Shanghai, Port Arthur (city of Lushun), Dalny (Dalian), by the cinema of those years, music, theater and literature of the Far East countries. After the mass exodus of the 1920s, China became the second homeland for many of our compatriots.

"Russian China" is an interweaving of different styles and trends - Chinese and Japanese, Russian, Far Eastern and Western art. Synthesis of Chinese and European art shows through the collection of costume, with its colorful art deco styling. The exhibition includes costumes made for performances and concerts in Harbin and Shanghai.
