International conferences: International scientific conference “Patriotic War of 1812 in the context of the world history” to be held in Moscow

July 9, an international scientific conference “Patriotic War of 1812 in the context of the world history” opens in the Institute of the World History of RAN (Moscow). The conference will be held in the framework of the Year of Russian history and celebration of the 200th anniversary of Russia’s victory in the Patriotic War of 1812.

The organizers of the conference are the Institute of World History of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Russian State University for Humanities, the International Napoleonic Society, State Borodino Military History Museum Reserve, the Association “The Franco-Russian dialogue”.

The conference will be attended by 150 specialists from 15 countries. The subject of 67 scientific reports will be the War of 1812 and its triumphant results for Russia in the global historical context of the time. They show the geopolitical problems and the consequences “of the Russian campaign” of Napoleon, the Patriotic War in the public mind, the price of victory, the international echo of Russian victory over the strongest army of that period.

The conference will cover the following topics:

- The Patriotic War of 1812 in history;

- Russia and France during the year of 1812;

- Mutual presentation of warring nations;

- International relations in the era of Napoleonic wars;

- International echo of the war of 1812;

- Coverage of Napoleonic wars: in national historiography;

- The Patriotic War of 1812: consequences and memory.

The conference will run till July 12.
