Society and culture: Preparation to the celebration of the 250th anniversary of the birth of Nikolay Karamzin in the Ulyanovsk region

In 2016 it will be 250 years since the birth of Nikolay Mikhailovich Karamzin.

August 23, 2010 a decree on “Celebration of the 250 the anniversary of the birth of N. M. Karamzin” is signed. In this regard, Governor Sergei Morozov holds a meeting of the working group on preparation and holding of celebrations to mark the 250th anniversary of the birth of Nikolai Karamzin.

The celebration of the anniversary of the outstanding historian is of great importance both for the region and for the whole cultural life of Russia as a whole. “A number of initiatives and projects, aimed at promoting of the work of Nikolay Karamzin are implemented in the Ulyanovsk region”, said the Minister of Art and cultural politics of the region Tatyana Murdasova. – Annually, the All-Russian Karamzin ball, All-Russian Karamzin readings with the participation of prominent historians of the country are held. The region has established a Native history Day, timed to the celebration of the birth of Nikolay Karamzin – December 12. A decade of National history takes place on this day – a series of educational events: local history readings, conferences, competitions, meetings with historians and writers. December 12, the Historic night is taken place in all museum of the Ulyanovsk region. Also in the region it is established the medal of Nikolay Karamzin, which is awarded to the outstanding figures of culture and education of the region. Besides, an agreement with the Fund “Pushkin Library” on cooperation in the matter of the National festival of historical literature is signed. The festival will take place in November 2012 when it assembles more than 30 largest publishing houses of Russia, as well as popular Russian and foreign writers and literary critics”.
