Society and book culture: The Spanish cathedral presents one of the rarest and expensive books in the world

One of the rarest and most expensive books in the world - the manuscript of the first half of the XII century Codex Calixtinus which was stolen last July from the cathedral in the Spanish city of Santiago de Compostela and was found by the police in early August this year, and once again it is exposed to the public viewing.

After finding the stolen code, Santiago de Compostela launches a special exhibition, which tells of the importance of this book for the history and culture of Europe.

The manuscript describes the religious service conducted on the relics of St. James, liturgical chants, as well as a description of the relics of the Saint from Jerusalem to Galicia.

One of the parts of the manuscript presents a detailed guide for pilgrims on the way of Saint James describing the route and customs of different regions, places to stay for the night and useful practical advice.
