Memory of the World: The second Russian Hanseatic Days are held in Belozersk

24 August 2012

From August 24-26, 2012 celebrations of the 1050th anniversary of Belozersk of the Vologda region, timed to the second Russian Hanseatic Days are held.

Under the establishment of the Russian Hanseatic League was taken a decision to annually conduct the Russian Hanseatic Days in one of the cities-members of the Union. In the framework of the Russian Hanseatic days it was originally planned to organize festive celebrations in medieval style, craft fairs, concerts and exhibitions. As the mayor of Veliky Novgorod Yuri Bobryshev noted, Russian Hanseatic Days are held "to keep interest to the hanseatic movement, the dissemination of the values of cultural and economic relationships of modern and medieval Hanseatic League and the development of links between the modern cities of the Hanseatic League".

Belozersk – is not just an active member of Russian Hanseatic league, which joint it on the day of the signing of the founding documents on July 30, 2010. This is one of the oldest Russian cities, which changed its location during its history for several times. That is why, despite the fact that according to the legend, the reign of Rurik in Lac Belot the brother Sineus started simultaneously with Rurik (Novgorod) and Truvor (Izborsk) 1150 years ago, a documentary proof of age of Belozersky (this is the modern name of the city) – is "only" 1050 years .

The program of celebrations includes traditional events with the participation of creative teams, the festival of historical reconstruction and etc. Representatives of "Hansa-media" – an international organization of journalists in the hanseatic cities together with a delegation of Veliky Novgorod will visit the second Russian Hanseatic Days.

The first Russian Hanseatic Days were held in Veliky Novgorod on June 10-1, 2011.
