World culture: Exhibition “Matisse and his time” in Chelyabinsk

August 16, 2012 an exhibition "Matisse and His Time" opens in the Chelyabinsk Museum of Art. For the first time in Chelyabinsk will be demonstrated a rare edition of lifetime lithographs of unique pictures of the famous French painter and sculptor Henri-Émile-Benoît Matisse from the private collection of Russian collector Oleg Malakhov.

The exhibition is part of the museum project "Treasures of the private collections of the Urals". The main part of the exhibition includes paintings from the series «Cahiers d'Art», made by the artist for the eponymous literary and art magazine. "There are 140 sheets in general, the exhibition features 35 - at his time Oleg Malakhov has acquired drawings at the auction in Paris.

For those visitors who are unfamiliar with the work of the artist, albums will be of particular interest, dedicated to the work of the author. The cover of one of them was designed by the master himself.

The second hall includes are paintings and sculptures by French artists who once worked with Matisse. These are eight paintings, including works by Charles Chaplain, Louis-Francois Bilul and three sculptures. Specialists may see the translation of the French critics of the article Christian Zervosse, dedicated to the works of Matisse; other visitors may see films about the life and work of the French artist.
