Russian History: A Unique treasure passes to the State Historical Museum in Moscow
August 14, 2012, to the Day of the Archaeologist, at the State Historical Museum (Moscow) will be held the donation to the museum of the unique treasure.
This is one of the most important acquisitions in recent years, which significantly enriches the archaeological collections relating to the early history of the Slavs: a unique set of personal ornaments, harness parts and equipment of the rider found in illegal treasure activity on archaeological sites in areas of the left bank of the Desna River in the south of the Bryansk region.
The main part of the treasure consists of several complexes of bronze ornaments. The whip handle, consisting of an iron rod with bronze details is an absolutely unique find. For the first time in the composition of such treasures on the territory of Kiev culture are found complete sets of parts of three bronze rhythons – ceremonial horns for drinking. The bronze mirror of Sarmatia origin, made by Chinese prototypes and parts of spring scissors are of rare finds.
The State Historical Museum is grateful to the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation for their help in preserving the cultural heritage of Russia and it hopes for further effective cooperation.
The exposition of unique finds will run till September, 3.
