
Society and Mass Media: The English-language web site about Asia RBTH Asia launched its work
Russia Beyond the Headlines announces the launch of a new web project – the English language web site rbth.asia (www.rbth.asia), designed for residents of East and South-East Asia.
The basis for the new web site has served the Hog Kong web site Beyond The Headlines, opened in February 2012 simultaneously with the publication of the application Russia and Greater China inside the Hong Kong newspaper South China Morning Post. The Asian project RBTH will tell about interesting events and trends in Russia as well as important events in the relations between Russia and countries of the region.
Among the authors and bloggers of the new project are a well-known Filipino art worker and civil activist Carlos Serdran, one the world’s best experts on North Korea and South Korea Andrey Lankov, the former correspondent of RIA News of many years in Indonesia Mikhail Tsyganov, a number of Asian and Russian businessmen, scientists and politicians.
The project is designed for the urban middle class in East and South-East Asia. In Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines people still rely on English-language media more than media published in local languages.
Besides, the web site will support future print projects of Russia Beyond the Headlines in the countries of the region. In the near future these are editions of applications in Singapore, Korea, Australia and Taiwan.
"Asia has historically played a special role for Russia and the Russians. The ability to directly talk to our eastern neighbors about life in Russia, about our achievements and problems is of paramount value to us. We hope that the RBTH will become for readers in Asia a source of important, useful and interesting information about our country", - said the chief editor of the applications of the RBTH Pavel Golub.
