Memorable dates of Russia: Historical and Patriotic action “The Patriotic War of 1812” in Volgograd

September 20, 2012 the Volgograd Regional Universal Scientific Library of Gorky held the official opening of the first in the Southern Federal District of the Electronic Reading Room of the Presidential Library.

This day the Volgograd region also launches a historical and patriotic action "The Patriotic War of 1812", dedicated to the 200th anniversary of the War of 1812. September 20-21, 2012 in the libraries of the Volgograd region are held round tables, virtual tours, and presentation of local history books, quizzes, literary, music, historical games, book exhibitions and more.

The aim of the action is to draw attention to the rich historical and cultural heritage of the Volgograd region. The participants are offered multimedia presentations, videos and electronic collection of the rare editions, and the special attention paid to the role of the Don Cossacks in military operations.

The Volgograd Regional Universal Scientific Library of Gorky hosted a round table on-line, where participants discussed the importance of the victory of the Russian people, the role of the Don Cossacks in the Patriotic War of 1812, the impact of this knowledge on the formation of national pride and patriotism in young people.

High school students, graduate students, history teachers of universities and schools, museums and archives professionals, researchers and all those interested in Russian history and cultural heritage took part in the discussion.
