History of Russia: Documentary photo exhibition “Kuzma Minin and people’s militia” in Nizhny Novgorod

The Russian Museum of Photographs in Nizhny Novgorod on September 19, 2012 has opened the documentary photo exhibition "Kuzma Minin and people's militia". The exhibits of the exhibition tell visitors about the history of the militia and the lives of its main characters - Kuzma Minin and Dmitry Pozharsky.

"For most contemporary people Kuzma Minin is an epic character. We hope that the exhibition will create an idea of this man as a real figure of the history", - said the expert of the Central Archives of the Nizhny Novgorod region, Dmitry Mochalov.

According to him, special interests present synods of Nizhny Novgorod monasteries in 1595 and 1649's. These commemorative recordings which reflected data of philanthropists of the church, there is information about the parents of Kuzma Minin as well as a record on the donation of Prince Pozharsky on the bell of the Macarius Monastery.

On the eve of the anniversary - the 400th anniversary of the People's Militia - the public will be presented quite obscure facts at the time. For example, documents relating to another militia leader - Nizhny Novgorod priest Sava Efimiev, which is supposed to make announcement calls for defense of the Fatherland, who came from the Patriarch Hermogenes. Later he participated in the election of Michael's on the throne, and signed letter from the election of Nizhny Novgorod.

In addition, the exhibition explains how inspired the feat of militia of his countrymen over the years, and includes photographs, which show large-scale celebration of the 300th anniversary of the Nizhny Novgorod militia and the Russian state with the participation of Emperor Nicholas II.
