Internet and society: The number of registered names in .RU domain zone exceeds four million

September 17, 2012 in the domain .RU was registered the fourth million domain name. Previous milestone - 3.5 million domain names – was reached 11 months ago, October 18, 2011.

By the number of registered domain names Russia's national domain .RU currently ranks the 6th among national domains of the world and the 10th among all top-level domains. The growth rates of the national domain .RU in 2012 have increased; the annual growth in the number of domain names was 16%. It is one of the highest among the major national domains.

"4 million.RU domain names suggest that Russia's national domain is popular among users. In addition, the Cyrillic domain .RF today has more than 800,000 domain names, so that the overall size of the Russian domain space is close to 5 million. This means that the Internet in Russia is developing rapidly: the number of Internet users is growing, as well as the interest of Russians to the web as a means of communication, and domain names are increasingly being used as a means of business development," said the director of the Coordination Center for Internet national domain, Andrei Kolesnikov.
