World history: Unique photographs at “Cities and People” vernisage in St. Petersburg

10-29 September 2012, at the Central Exhibition Hall "Manege" (St. Petersburg) is held the Tenth anniversary photo vernisage "Cities and People."

Visitors can enjoy the atmosphere of provincial life of Russian and foreign cities, life in Moscow and St. Petersburg of the late 19th - the first half of 20th century. Of greatest interest are pictures created at different times by the members of the royal family, the great princes, who enjoyed photography and liked to record their many travels. Copenhagen, Berlin, Nice, Paris, Milan, New Delhi, Istanbul, Tehran, Beijing and many other cities of the world are the art images of the era that convey the aesthetics of the time, the fashion, the perception of people.

Retrospective section of the vernisage includes also an ambitious exhibition project by Russ Press Photo - "Grand Prix the Russian way. Photos of Russian and Soviet winners of the World Press Photo 1955-2012 », showing the achievements of national photographers in the arena of world press photo. A unique exposition consists of 444 photos by 112 authors. The exhibited works are not only of artistic value, but also of encyclopedic one. There is the first spacewalk, sports victories, and portraits of unique individuals, almost all the memorable events of our country over the past half century. Many of the works are on display for the first time.

Modern photography also shows a wide range of interests of the authors. A significant part of the exposure is given to American photography - about 170 works of famous authors from the U.S.

The students of the Academy of Fine Arts of Florence this year also demonstrate their idea of cities and people.

Finally, the Union of Photographers of Russia for the first time in the cultural capital shows the final exhibition of the annual contest "Young Photographers of Russia."
