Memorable dates of Russia: “The Whole Russia Remembers…” Exhibition timed to the 200th anniversary of the Patriotic War of 1812 in Vologda

"The Whole Russia Remembers..." exhibition opened on September 7, 2012 in the south-west tower of the Vologda Kremlin. The exhibition is dedicated to the 200th anniversary of the Patriotic War of 1812.

The exhibition includes more than 150 items, united by one common theme - the victory in the Patriotic War of 1812, patriotism and love for homeland.

The core of the exhibition represent prints of portraits of Napoleon and the generals of the Russian army, whose portraits are presented in the Military Gallery of the Winter Palace, including that of A. H. Benkendorf and M. A. Miloradovich.

The War of 1812 through the eyes of the enemy, a French soldier, can be seen on the sheets of lithographed album of A. Adam with scenes of the battles in which he participated (near Moscow and Smolensk); also on display are battle scenes, award and commemorative medals, books, items of military equipment and other museum objects.

In addition there are awards and medals, including the medals of the famous series of F. P. Tolstoy, "The Memorable Events of the War of 1812", as well as books, items of uniform. Widely available are copies of documents from the State Archives of the Vologda Region, revealing the contribution to the victory in the Patriotic War of 1812 made by Vologda residents.

One of the sets of the exhibited materials tells about the celebration of anniversaries of the Patriotic War of 1812, the widely marked in Russia in 1912 the centenary of the Patriotic War. A considerable part of the exhibits are on display for the first time.
