Memorable dates of Russia: “Glory Always and Forever” Exhibition marking the 200th anniversary of the Patriotic War of 1812 in St. Petersburg

"Glory Always and Forever" Exhibition which opens September 10, 2012 at the State Museum of Urban Sculpture (GMGS), continues series celebrations of the 200th anniversary of the Patriotic War of 1812. The GMGS new exhibition hall features rare and unique works from the holdings of the oldest museum of St. Petersburg.

Visitors will see design drawings of the first option of Narva Triumphal Gate by G. Kvarengi, sheets from the album of 1836 of A. Montferrand "Plan and Details of the Monument dedicated to the memory of Emperor Alexander", where of the famous architect developed the project of the Alexander Column, which became one of the symbols of the city.

Among the exhibits there are also paintings and graphic portraits of the generals of the Russian and French armies, graphics of key battles of military campaigns of 1812-1814.

For the first time the State Museum of Urban Sculpture presents to the public the "Portrait of Napoleon" by J. Engelmann dated 1828, made in lithography, and the picturesque "Portrait of Alexander I» made in 1814 by G. Meyer.

In the format of "exhibition at the exhibition" there are artworks of young students of St. Petersburg schools, as well as a personal exhibition of the outstanding Soviet graphic artist and book illustrator, Vladimir Shevchenko, dedicated to the 90th birthday anniversary of the master.
