Memory of Russia: Mozhaysk and Maloyaroslavets became “Cities of Military Glory”

3 September 2012

Deeds on the title "City of Military Glory" to Mozhaysk and Maloyaroslavets were awarded by Vladimir Putin to the heads of urban settlements in the commemoration of the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Borodino.

It was Maloyaroslavets when in October 1812 Napoleon’s plans on passing through war untouched the Kaluga region and seizing the rich food supplies were disrupted. Leaving defiant Moscow, he met near Maloyaroslavets the courageous resistance of our troops, blocked all roads leading to the south and the south-west – noted V. Putin, handing the deed on the title to Maloyaroslavets.

On handling the deed to the head of the urban settlement of Mozhaysk Igor Sungurov Vladimir Putin stressed that Mozhaysk was an outpost on the western borders of Muscovy and the support of the state in the process of unification of the Russian lands.
