Society and culture: Russian Institute of History of Art celebrates a centenary

The Russian Institute of History of Art, founded by Count Platonovich Valentyn Zubov, in October 2012, celebrates 100 years. The anniversary celebrations are held in the Institute on St. Isaac's Square in St. Petersburg from 22 to 24 October 2012.

The celebrations will be attended by descendants of Count Zubov from Germany and the Netherlands.

The program of the anniversary includes two plenary sessions ("Between St. Petersburg and Leningrad: The phenomenon of the Zubov Institute", "Oral Encyclopedia of the Russian Institute of History of Art: People and years"), the sectional meetings and round tables on topical issues of contemporary art history, media presentation of the RIHA; "Golden Lectures" of the leading critics of Moscow, St. Petersburg, England, France and the CIS countries, as well as concerts, in one of which will take part Konstantin Raikin.

In addition, in the framework of the celebration of the centennial of the Institute there will be prepared and adopted a Declaration in support of domestic science of culture and art.

Russia's first (and one of the first in the world) special art history research center was conceived on the model of the German Institute for Art History in Florence, as a scientific and educational institution with a library and art departments, the Zubovsky Institute took a special place in the culture not only in Petersburg but throughout Russia.
