Languages of the world: The XVII International Festival of Languages took place in Chuvashia

Chuvashia hosted the XVII International Festival of Languages. During two days, from 20 to 21 October 2012, the forum presented 38 world languages; lectures were delivered by researchers of the Institute of Linguistics, in the mode of "live communication" were held meetings with volunteers from France and Ukraine. The event of the festival was the presentation of the Chuvash language textbook "The 1001 first word".

In the framework of the festival, the Swedish Esperanto Publishing House (Uppsala) provided books in Esperanto. Publications will be transferred to the National Library of Chuvashia, the children and youth library as well as to Esperanto communities Shumerlya and Samara.

Organizers note that the festival has attracted attention not only to students and scholars, but also linguists. In particular, the U.S. linguist Kate Lindsey told of the languages ​​of California Indian tribes, as well as the study and description of language edi (Papua New Guinea).

The specialists of the Institute of Linguistics of the Russian Academy of Sciences told the forum participants about the languages of Finland and Vietnam. According to Tatiana Agranat, about 80% of the world's languages are endangered, and with the language the whole layer of culture, reflected in the worldview of the small people disappears.

The Festival of Languages of Chuvashia was first held in 1996.
