Information technology and history: Virtual map “Vladimir region in the Patriotic War of 1812”
October 11, 2012 in the Vladimir Regional Scientific Library was held the presentation of the electronic electronic "Virtual Map "Vladimir Region in the War of 1812".
This is a joint project of the Vladimir Regional Library and the Vladimir local historical society in the framework of the celebration dedicated to the 200th anniversary of the victory in the Patriotic War of 1812.
The Patriotic War of 1812 has left a deep mark in the history of the Russian Empire. The Vladimir is not an exception. Many natives of the region took part in hostilities; in the province there was formed militia; the Vladimir garrison battalion passed basic training recruits for the army; during the war bravely formed under Peter I of Vladimir and Murom infantry regiments, as well as Vladimir Lancers fought.
This and other information are provided in the virtual map, "Vladimir Region in the War of 1812", which is available at the web site of the Vladimir Regional Library.
The idea of the project has emerged in the course of the XIII local history competition "Do know and love the native Vladimir". One of the works of the student-participant of the Vladimir State University Aleksey Zhuravlev was the starting point of creation.
More than 160 slides of electronic presentation of the contestant were edited by library staff and passed on to the map, the structure and design of which allowed to place material in the most convenient and user-accessible form: geographically and thematically.
The project has used the map of the Vladimir province of 1871 with the boundaries of the seven counties. Each county is "active" and provides information on how a particular city, the village, the village were related to events in 1812.
As part of the virtual map it is placed a methodological and bibliographical guide "Vladimir people's militia in the war of 1812", prepared by the Department of Local History Bibliography Vladimir Regional Library.
