11 October 2012

From October 10, 2012 in the Central Andrey Rublev Museum of Ancient Russian Culture and Art (Moscow) is taking place an exhibition “Icons of the XIV-XVIII centuries from the collection of the Museum of Medieval Art (Korce, Albania)”.

Presented exhibits give opportunity to trace the major milestones of artistic development included in the Albanian territories of the Late Middle Ages.

The exhibition includes icons of the XIV century, monuments of the XVI century, and works of the XVII-XVIII centuries. Some images have signatures of painters, which give them the added value. Icons created by the artist Onuphrii Cyprus are of particular expressiveness.

Long-term relations with Constantinople and the Greek world have determined the orientation of the exhibited art icons, following in line with the Byzantine and post-Byzantine tradition. The canonical beginning is near the severity and immediacy of interpretation of scenes and images, indicating the peripheral consciousness; others are closer to the academic tradition.

The exhibition will be held from October 10 to November 11, 2012 in the halls of the Central Andrey Rublev Museum of Ancient Russian Culture and Art, and from November 19 to December 12, 2012 - in Nizhny Novgorod State Art Museum, and it will give the audience a unique opportunity to get acquainted with medieval art Republic of Albania.
