Exhibitions: Exposition “Under the sign of Rembrandt. Art collection of Mosolov family” in Moscow

October 10, 2012 the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts opens an exhibition “Under the sign of Rembrandt. Art collection of Mosolov family”.

The museum continues a series of exhibitions "Portraits of Collectors", in the framework of which it introduces the audience with the history of collecting in Russia, as well as modern private collections. The very name of the cycle indicates that the focus is the individual collector and his collection. The new draft, presented at the Department of Private Collections of the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts, is dedicated to the collection of the famous Russian engraver and hereditary collector Nikolai Semenovich Mosolov (1847 - 1914), thanks to his collecting activities the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts has a rich collection of etchings and drawings by Rembrandt and other Dutch artists of the XVII century. The collection, bequeathed to the collector at the beginning of XX century to the Rumyantsev Museum, and after its dissolution moved to the graphic department of the Pushkin Museum, counts about two thousand prints.

The exhibition features 50 etchings by Rembrandt - the best master's works, including prints on eastern paper, and more than 100 etchings and paintings by Dutch masters of the XVII century. Many of the works of these authors will be shown to the public for the first time.

Besides,  10 paintings of the old masters of Holland, Italy, France as well as 8 sculptures of the XVII - XIX centuries from the family collection of Mosolov, are also presented. The exhibition is complemented with engravings by Nikolay Semyonovich Mosolov in the second half of the XIX century, as well as portraits of the Mosolov family, photos, documents, books from the rich library of the collector. The exhibition shows more than 250 works of art from the art collection of the Mosolov family.
