Society and science: International Scientific Congress “Heritage of L. N. Gumilev and fates of the peoples of Eurasia” in Saint-Petersburg

International Scientific Congress "Heritage of N. L. Gumilev and fates of people of Eurasia: Past, Present and Prospects" is held on October 1-4, 2012 in St. Petersburg, on the initiative of the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (IPA) of the CIS.

At the Congress, scientists and politicians of the CIS countries plan to pay special attention to the prospects for creation and development of the Eurasian Union. As noted in the press service of the CIS Inter-parliamentary Assembly, at the congress will take place the plenary and scientific discussions of three "round tables" on "Eurasian Union: a strategy of political and cultural interaction", "ethnogenesis and ethnic history of the peoples of Eurasia" and "Culture of Eurasia: unity and diversity".

The Congress is attended by members of parliament and heads of legislative and executive bodies of the Commonwealth countries, representatives of international organizations, educational and research institutions, NGOs and the media. Forum was officially opened on October 1 at the Tauride Palace - the headquarters of the Interparliamentary Assembly of the CIS countires.

October 2-3, the Saint-Petersburg State University will be hosting the conference "The scientific legacy of Lev Gumilev: origins, evolution, problems of perception".

October 2, 2012 the Herzen State Pedagogical University of Russia will host a conference of young researchers: «Culture of the Eurasia peoples in the heritage of L. N. Gumilev: intersonnectedness of historical destiny and prospects»

October 3, at the Russian Geographical Society, an active member of which Tolstoy was up to his death, leading his ethnographic department, is scheduled a conference “Landscape and ethnicity in the historical geography of Eurasia”.

October 4, the Interregional Institute of Economics and Law will host an International Conference - creative workshop "Common educational space of Eurasia: origins, current status and prospects".

Lev Gumilev is one of brightest and ambiguous figures of the XX century, his works present a great historical and literary value to the members of the scientific environment and for all who are interested in culture and history of their country.
