History and culture: Exhibition “Lev Nikolayevich Gumilev: Life in documents” in Saint-Petersburg

November 27, 2012 the Korff Hall of the Russian National Library (St. Petersburg) opens an exhibition "Lev Gumilev: Life in documents", dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the birth of the world-famous scientist.

The exhibition presents unique manuscripts, documents and photographs from the collections of the Department of Manuscripts of NLR and Archives of A. A. Akhmatova, Memorial Flat of L. N.  Gumilev, the Anna Akhmatova Museum at the Fountain House, the Russian Geographical Society, the Museum of the History of St. Petersburg University.

Among the exhibits are such famous works as "The Old Turks of the VI-VIII centuries", "Ethnogenesis and the Biosphere", "Ancient Rus’ and the Great Steppe", "Millennium around the Caspian Sea", "Ancient Tibet" and "Discovery of the Khazars", "From Rus’ to Russia" and a number of other publications, including the magazine. They are supplemented with rich illustrative material, presented by albums, photographs and miniatures.

The opening of this exhibition is the final step and it is unifying several commemorative events: the International Eurasian Conference, held in the Tauride Palace, exhibitions in the memorial flat of Gumilev, the Anna Akhmatova Museum at the Fountain House, the Faculty of History of the Saint-Petersburg State University.
