Exhibition “"Russian watercolor drawing of the second half of XIX - early XX century from the collection of the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts" opened on November 23, 2012 in the halls of the Tretyakov Gallery graphics. This is one of the final events to mark the 100th anniversary of Pushkin Museum. Pushkin. The anniversary was the occasion to acquaint viewers with the least known to the public part of the graphic collection of the Museum.

The exposition includes about two hundred graphic works, which include paintings of "small" and "big" artists, important works not only for the museum's collection, but also the Russian art school of the second half of XIX - early XX centuries as a whole.

The exposition demonstrates the main events in the graphic arts of this time: the work of masters of the academic direction, several generations of mobile art exhibitions, participants of Abramtsevo artistic circle, members of the "World of Art" and the Union of Russian Artists, commonwealth "Blue Rose".

The exposition shows the characteristic feature of the museum's collection - a relatively small number of painters and paintings, by contrast, a representative collection of works by artists who specialized in the field of graphics - drawing and watercolors.

A special space is allocated for the main surprise of the exhibition – a reunion of related works from the Pushkin Museum and the Tretyakov Gallery. For the first time in decades, you can see the next pair of watercolors by Konstantin Somov "How to dress up in the old days" (Pushkin) and "Dress up Now" (Tretyakov Gallery), a composition for painting of the mansion of A. I. Derozhinskaya V. E. Borisov-Musatov, various types of sketches of M. A. Vrubel to the curtain for the Russian Private Opera Mamontov in Moscow landscapes Benois "Crossroads of philosophers" (GMII) and "Fantasia on a theme of Versailles" (Tretyakov Gallery), which depicts favorite artist corner of the park of Versailles, pastel "At the Wild North ..." of I. I. Ivan Shishkin (Tretyakov Gallery) and a preparatory sketch for it (GMII).

The demonstration of this collection in the halls of the Tretyakov Gallery Graphics offers a unique opportunity to see works from the collection of the Pushkin Museum in the broader context of Russian art. However, these graphic works at the time of the exhibition will complement the permanent exhibition of the Gallery, enriching visitors’ representation of culture of the second half of the XIX century and the Silver Age.
